Questions

The two things everyone asks first.

Whether it’s legal, and what the catch is. Both are fair questions, and both have short answers — with the statute each one rests on.

Legality, and the money

The questions both sides ask before anything else.

What's the catch — how do you make money?

One fee, from one side. A licensed terminal operator buys prepaid tokens and spends them to unlock a listing, which is charged for access to the listing data, before any offer exists. It is non-refundable and completely independent of who wins. We take no commission, no success fee and no share of any deal, ever, and no amount of money moves an terminal operator up a list or in front of a location. A location pays nothing at any point — not to list, not to award, and not to walk away. Verified terminal operators see the full fee schedule once their license is approved.

How it works for terminal operators

What do you keep a record of?

Every consequential action on the platform is written to an append-only transaction ledger as it happens — a listing published, a listing unlocked, an offer submitted or withdrawn, an award signed. Entries are never edited or deleted. It is our own internal record, kept so we can account for how the marketplace operated, and identities in it stay aliased.

If you run a location

You have a floor and you're wondering whether it's worth looking around.

Can a terminal operator just pay me more to switch?

No. The split of after-tax income is set by statute at 50/50 (230 ILCS 40/25(c)), and no agreement can change it. Anyone offering you money, a signing bonus or a guaranteed minimum to switch is proposing something the rules prohibit, and that exposes your own license as well as theirs. What a terminal operator may provide is a fixed, capped list of equipment and services (Rule 1800.350(b)), including up to $2,500 for the hardware and service to connect your terminals. We show you that list, so you can tell a promise they can keep from one they can't.

Will my current terminal operator find out I'm looking?

Not from us. Your listing shows a county, a revenue band, how many terminals you run and roughly how long is left on your agreement — never your name, your address or your exact figures. If your county and band are too thin a crowd to hide in, we widen the listing to a whole region rather than show your county. Your identity is released to exactly one terminal operator, the one you award, and only at the moment you award them. Everyone else never learns who you were.

List your floor

What does it cost me to list?

Nothing. Listing is free, comparing offers is free, and awarding is free. There is no fee to a location at any stage — not to list, not to award, and not to walk away. The terminal operators are the paying side.

Am I obligated to pick anyone?

No. You can read every offer and award no one. Listing commits you to nothing, and there is no penalty and no fee for closing your listing without choosing. The only commitment you ever make is the one you sign yourself, when you decide to.

What happens after I pick someone?

You sign a Commitment to Execute — an attested statement that you intend to enter a use agreement with that terminal operator on the service terms they offered. It carries no money. The winning terminal operator then learns who you are, both of you can download a signed certificate of what was committed to, and you negotiate and sign the use agreement itself directly with them, off this platform, as you always would.

If you're a licensed terminal operator

You're the paying side, so these are the ones worth reading closely.

What does the unlock fee actually buy?

Access to one listing's full profile, so you can make an informed offer. The token is spent at unlock, before any offer exists — that is what makes it a fee for data rather than a fee for a deal. It is non-refundable and does not depend on whether you win. A single Listing token opens the board and is never spent on browsing — you hold it until you unlock the floor you choose. Want to look before you buy in? The demo walks the whole flow with no signup.

How it works for operators

Are the locations real, and are they actually shopping?

Every location is verified before its listing reaches the board, and a listing is posted by the location itself — not scraped, and not a lead someone resold. Most are inside the final year of their current agreement, which is when a floor is genuinely in play. If a location signs a Commitment to Execute and then backs out, we issue the affected terminal operator a replacement unlock credit.

Can I pay for better placement?

No, and there is nothing to buy. Every unlocked terminal operator is presented to a location the same way, and offers are shown anonymized — Operator A, B, C — until the location awards one. Spending more cannot move you up, and a location sees the service you committed to, not what you spent to get there.

These answers describe how The Gameset works and cite the law it is built around. They are informational only, they are not legal advice, and they are not an offer of anything of value. For advice about your own license or agreement, talk to your own counsel. Still have a question?

Nothing here costs you anything to try.

A location lists free and can award no one. Terminal Operators walk the whole flow free in the demo; on the live board a Listing token opens every floor and is spent only on one worth having.
